Well since Im in Sweden everything is a bit to travel and Id consider doing the Czech Rep in conjunction with a Alp trip. What Im thinking is to drive germany->czech rep->austria on a little road trip (two or three weeks). But I could as well do poland->slovak rep->czech rep->austria.
Its not for this season since Im already booked and I have over spent my vacation days as is. ;)
Sumava would be nice to visit since Ive heared alot about it and want to go there anyway. Do you know which villages have good skiing?
Tomas

No a pak myslim, že nezklame Chopok na Slovensku... ale to je "trochu z ruky" (=its a way too far).
Třeba by někdo zkušenější poradil dobrej resort?

Greetings,
I know very little of skiing in the Czech Rep these days. All I know is from the stories my parents told how they skied as kids back in the 50s. So I know nothing.
What I hear about skiing in eastern europe is that hotles have expanded more then resorts and lifts resulting in huge crowds. I dont want that.
What I would like to find is that little nice village that has a mountain with maybe a lift or two that not may people go to BUT the mountain has great freeriding.
Whats important to me is:
a) Snow
High snow reliability makes planing vacations easier and sking better. A 300 vertical meter hill can be more fun that any Alp resort in the right conditions.
b) Terrain
Sure steep is nice but its not everything. By terrain I mean if there are trees to ski in and if the shape of the mountain varies in a nice way.
c) Vertical meters
Doesnt have to be 2000 vertical meters to be fun. My favorite mountains are almost all under 1000 vertical meters. So really sure its fun with longer rides but vertical meters is a bad indicator of a mountain.
d) Number of lifts
As far as I care there can be 1 lift. Well there doesnt have to be any lift at all but hey Im lazy so yes Id like at least a lift. But if you know something that is great but requires hiking then please tell me.
Id love to come and ski in the Czech Rep one day but I do want to try and stay clear of the biggest crowds.
Thanks in advance.
Tomas
PS. Please feel free to respond in Czech so I can practice my reading. Ds.
